About Us

What we do, and who we are.

Founded for cat lovers.
Run by cat lovers.

Established in 2008, THE Westside Cat Practice was founded on the belief that cats (and their owners) deserve a higher level of care than they often receive in mixed dog-and-cat hospitals.

In 2013 we merged with two other veterinary practices – increasing both our client base, as well as our expertise.

We stay up to date on all the latest in feline medicine, and have invested in modern digital equipment perfectly tailored to cats’ physiology and needs.

“Our mission is to provide cats and their owners with everything they need to live long, healthy, and happy lives together.”

Clean. Quiet. Stress-free.

We understand that taking your cat to the vet can be a stressful experience – especially when there are other animals present. So, we have designed our practice to reduce as much stress as possible, and focus purely on providing exceptional care for cats.

We have a team of people who are totally cat-oriented. This makes for a lower stress environment, where we can provide your cat truly exceptional care. In fact, we were designated a Gold Level Cat Friendly Practice by the American Association of Feline Practitioners in 2012.

Cat friendly to the core.

To be considered a Cat Friendly Practice by the AAFP, a veterinary hospital must meet certain criteria. This includes specific training, focusing on understanding cats’ unique needs, and designing the environment to be friendly not only to cats themselves – but also to their owners.

Your friendly neighborhood cat vets.

Dr. Tom Elston, DVM

Often called “the Cat Whisperer,” Dr. Elston is perfectly suited for his profession. In fact, cats have been his life’s work, and he was one of the first doctors in the country to specialize in cat-only Veterinary Medicine over 35 years ago. His calm demeanor will not only put your furry friends at ease, but as he takes you through what’s going on with them, you may find yourself wishing he were your physician too.

Cats of his own

Dr. Leah Scholz, DVM

Dr. Scholz’s feline career began early in life, when she would bring home strays to take care of as a young girl. Years later, after receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, she began working exclusively with cats. Today, she takes a special pride in understanding and fostering the bond that clients have with their cats. And even has two of her own.

Cats of her own

Dr. Stephannie Tallent, DVM

Not only a veteran of working with cats and other small animals, Dr. Tallent is also U.S. Army veteran. She served as a Military Intelligence Officer for four years before going back to school to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1999. She has been working as a small animal Veterinarian in Southern California ever since. You might say West Point trained her for the Westside, but that’s something we can neither confirm nor deny.
